Real-world range by version

The EV6 launched with a 58 kWh Standard Range pack and a 77.4 kWh Long Range pack. The 2025 facelift moved the Long Range up to an 84 kWh battery. All quoted range figures below are WLTP unless stated, and real-world numbers come from independent testing rather than the manufacturer.

EV Database puts the 77.4 kWh Long Range RWD at roughly 250 miles combined in the real world, dropping to about 180 miles on a cold motorway run and rising toward 370 miles for gentle city driving in mild weather. Battery design and cooling

The EV6 sits on Kia's E-GMP platform with an 800V electrical architecture, which is what allows its headline rapid-charging speeds. The pack uses nickel-manganese-cobalt (NCM) pouch cells supplied by SK On, arranged in a liquid-cooled module structure. Liquid cooling matters: it keeps cell temperatures even during fast charging and hot weather, which is one of the main factors in how slowly a pack ages.

The 800V design also means the EV6 spends less time at high current during a rapid charge than many 400V rivals, because it can accept power at higher voltage. In practical terms that tends to keep heat down during charging, which is good news for long-term battery health, provided the car has been looked after.

How the battery ages

No two used EV6s are identical, so treat any single percentage with caution until you test the actual car. As a benchmark, Geotab's large EV study reports an average battery degradation rate of around 2.3 percent per year across more than 22,700 vehicles and 21 makes and models. That figure is a fleet average across all brands, not an EV6-specific number, and Geotab notes that chemistry and thermal management are among the reasons some models age faster than others.

Applied to the EV6, a well-treated three or four year old car should still test comfortably in the high 80s or low 90s for State of Health, with liquid cooling and the conservative pack buffer working in its favour. What moves the needle is history: heavy reliance on rapid charging, frequent charging to 100 percent, and long periods parked at very high or very low charge. Known issues and recalls

The most important issue on the EV6 is the Integrated Charging Control Unit, or ICCU. The ICCU manages high-voltage charging and keeps the 12V battery topped up. On affected cars it can become damaged over time and stop charging the 12V battery, which can lead to a gradual loss of drive power.

This is a real recall, not internet rumour. In the UK it is run by DVSA under campaign number 241041 and covers model-year 2024 EV6 cars, with the remedy being an ICCU software update, or replacement of the ICCU and fuse where a specific fault code is present. In the US the current recall is NHTSA campaign 24V867 (Kia SC327), covering around 62,872 EV6 vehicles from the 2022 to 2024 model years, which replaced the earlier 24V200. The EV6 shares this ICCU concern with the closely related Hyundai Ioniq 5, so the same checks apply to both.

Separately, there was a small US-only battery fire recall (NHTSA campaign 26V431) covering only a handful of 2022 to 2024 EV6 units, where specific cells from supplier SK On could contain misaligned electrodes. That action affected a very small number of cars and, on current information, was a US measure rather than a UK or Europe-wide recall. Do not read a US-only action as a UK recall.

Battery warranty

Kia's UK cover is among the more generous in the market. The whole-car warranty runs to 7 years or 100,000 miles. The high-voltage battery is warranted separately: for cars first registered from 1 January 2024 the battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, and for earlier cars 7 years or 100,000 miles, in each case against capacity dropping below 70 percent of original. Crucially the battery warranty is transferable to subsequent owners, so a used EV6 can still carry meaningful factory cover.

Two points for buyers. First, the 70 percent threshold is a floor, not a target: a car can sit above 70 percent and still have lost enough range to matter for your daily drive.
