Few used EVs reward a careful battery check like the Renault Zoe. It is one of Europe's all-time best-selling electric cars, so there are plenty on the UK and Ireland used market at tempting prices, but two things set it apart from almost every rival: the battery may be leased rather than owned, and the pack is air-cooled with no active liquid cooling loop.

The 22 kWh figure is an NEDC number from before the WLTP standard, so treat it as optimistic. The later WLTP figures are closer to reality but still assume mild weather and gentle driving.
Battery design and cooling
This is the Zoe's defining battery trait. The pack is air-cooled and passive, relying on natural convection. The headline battery-specific item is a fire-risk recall. Renault recalled 733 units built between 13 January and 22 February 2021 for an internal short-circuit fire risk, with further recalls covering September to December 2019 and early-2021 builds (autoevolution; car-recalls.eu).
