That is a single owner report, not a study, but the spread between a well-kept and an abused ID.4 is wide, and only a test tells you which you have. Known issues and recalls
The ID.4's recall picture in 2026 needs reading carefully, because two separate actions run at once with different scope.
The first is a US action. NHTSA recall 26V030, opened in January 2026, covers around 43,881 US-built 2023 to 2025 ID.4s fitted with battery modules from SK Battery America. Shifted electrode conditions could cause self-discharge and, in rare cases, thermal propagation and fire, so US owners were told to cap charging at 80%, avoid DC fast charging and park outside until fixed (NHTSA, Cars.com). These are US-market cars built in Chattanooga, so this recall does not apply to UK-supplied ID.4s, and no listing should present it as a UK recall.
The second is a broader Volkswagen action from March 2026 covering around 94,031 EVs worldwide (ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.Buzz and Cupra Born) built in a limited window, addressing a battery-module fault that in very rare cases could cause thermal overload within a module, remedied by a software update plus a test of the modules and replacement of any at-risk module (Auto Express, autoevolution). In the UK the confirmed recall so far is 2,261 ID.3 Pro S cars; Volkswagen UK has not confirmed whether any UK-market ID.4s are included, so check this specific car by VIN against DVSA and VW UK records. Volkswagen has framed it as precautionary.
Either way, the buyer's question is specific: has this car had the recall work completed, and is its pack healthy now?
