Two used cars badged e-Golf can be quite different machines: a 2015 24 kWh model creeping past its warranty, or a 2019 35 kWh facelift with nearly double the usable capacity. The e-Golf shares the proven petrol Golf platform, so the drivetrain rarely worries buyers. The battery decides what the car is worth, and it is the one thing you cannot see.
Real-world range by version
The e-Golf came in two clearly different battery generations. The pre-facelift car predates WLTP entirely, so its official number is an optimistic NEDC figure; treat it with caution. The facelift carries a proper WLTP rating.

Note too that the facelift's 35.8 kWh is gross but only 32.0 kWh usable, roughly a 10.6% factory buffer, so the dashboard percentage already sits on a protective reserve and is no substitute for a measured state-of-health figure.
Battery design and cooling
The most important thing to understand about e-Golf ageing is that it uses passive air cooling with no active liquid thermal-management system, confirmed by InsideEVs and owner communities. That is unusual for a VW EV; the later ID cars are liquid-cooled, and some low-quality auto-generated web pages wrongly call the e-Golf liquid-cooled too. It matters, because cooling governs how a pack copes with heat and hard charging. Put honestly: well-kept UK cars tend to sit in the single-digit to low-teens percent range by six to eight years, while heavy rapid charging, high mileage and heat are where the passive-cooling risk shows. Known issues and recalls
Certain 2015 to 2016 e-Golf vehicles, built roughly May 2014 to March 2016, were recalled in the US (NHTSA campaign 16V138) because oversensitive high-voltage battery diagnostics could falsely detect an electrical surge and shut down the electric drive motor, an unexpected loss of drive rather than a fire risk (reported by Cars.com and Manufacturing.net). It was fixed with a software remedy.
